General FAQs

Hours of different areas of the building differ.

Building Hours are the hours that the building is open for study.

Library Services Hours are the hours that the Circulation Desk and Library Stacks are open, and Library Staff if available for assistance.

Please visit the hours page to see the different hours of the different areas.

The Library has three classrooms and a Makerspace. Library Rooms 117, 121, 122, and 123 are located on the first floor of the building. When you enter near the Barista, you will see a hallway by the Barista and a hallway by the elevator. Go down those hallways and make a right or left into another hallway. The classrooms are located in that second hallway.
The Writing Center is located on the first floor in the Sharon and James E. Rohr Academic Commons in Group Study 106. Hours for the center are posted on the door. The director of the writing center can be found next door in Office 107.
The center is located on the first floor in the Sharon and James E. Rohr Academic Commons along the wall of glass offices in Office 110.
The Center is located on the second floor of the Dale P. Latimer Library. If you enter the middle entrance of the building and go up the grand staircase, the center will be located to your left.
Restrooms are located on the first and second floors of the building.

On the first floor, they are found at the end of the hallway by the elevator.

On the second floor, there is a hallway to the right of the mural. The restrooms are located in that hallway.

There are a variety of spaces throughout the Library where you can study. There are tables throughout, as well as individual study carrels. There are also group study rooms intended for 2-6 people located throughout the building.
Group study rooms are utilized on a first-come, first-served basis.
We are currently not accepting donations. Thank you for understanding.

Library Services FAQs

Current Saint Vincent College Students, Seminarians, Faculty, Staff, and Members of the Monastery can borrow items from the Library.

Your SVC ID card serves as your Library Card, and it must be present when checking out materials.

Items that are available to be checked out include books on a variety of topics, DVDs, and CDs.

Some items are retricted to Circulation Desk Area Use Only. These include past and current periodicals, microfilm, microfiche, reference books, and reserve items.

It is a desk that has Library Staff that can assist you with a variety of things, including checking books in and out, using the catalog, accessing materials, finding a book or other item, and accessint reserve and interlibrary loan materials. The Circulation Desk is located on the Mezzanine level of the building behind the giant pillars.
Length of checkout is determined by the type of material.

Books (print and on tape) : 3 weeks

DVDs : 7 days

Reserve Material : Length is determined by the professor. Please inquire at the Circulation Desk.

At the time of checkout, Circulation Staff will let you know the date the item is due, and a date due sticker will be placed in the back of the item.

You should also receive an e-mail to your SVC e-mail address that shows the date the items need to be returned. If you finish with your items before the due date, please feel free to return them early.

As long as there hasn't been a request for the item, you can renew your items. Access your account online and renew the item online. You are only permitted to do 2 renewals online. You can also visit the Circulation Desk in person with your items to renew them.
If items are not returned on time, you will be charged overdue fines. Fines vary based on the type of material.

Books: $0.25 per item, per day

Other material: $1.00 per item, per day

Reserve Material: $1.00 per hour

Lost items: Replacement cost of a minimum of $50.00 plus a $25.00 processing fee and $5.00 billing fee

Please contact library staff as soon as possible if you feel you have lost any materials belonging to the Dale P. Latimer Library. You will be charged a minimum of $50.00 for a replacement cost, plus a $25.00 processing fee and a $5.00 billing fee.
Fines should be paid in person at the Circulation Desk. Cash or check can be used to pay fines. We currently do not accept credit or debit card payments..

ILL FAQs

Delivery time varies. When requesting items, please submit requests at least two weeks before material is needed. On average, books and physical items can take up to 2-4 weeks to arrive. Copy requests of journal articles or book chapters can take a few days, up to two weeks to arrive.
There is a nominal $1.50 charge per ILL request.

 

Students receive their first 15 requests per academic year (July-June) free of charge. After 15 requests, students will be responsible for the basic $1.50 per request charge.

Faculty and Staff can have their costs covered by their department if the request is related to their position at Saint Vincent College.

Yes. Late fees for ILL materials are assessed at $1.00 per item, per day.
ILL Books can be returned in person to the Circulation Desk during open hours. If after hours, please return all books to the book return bin, located by the Circulation Desk.
No, the library does not lend or obtain textbooks via ILL.
No, due to licensing agreements, eBooks are not available to be obtained through ILL.
Please contact library staff as soon as possible if you feel you have lost any materials belonging to the Dale P. Latimer Library or any ILL items. For any lost items, you will be billed a minimum of $50.00 for a replacement cost, plus a $25.00 processing fee and a $5.00 billing fee
You can read the Interlibrary Loan Policies found on the Interlibrary Loan page. You can also e-mail the ILL office at ILL@stvincent.edu.
Many of the lending libraries allow for the renewal of their ILL items. The renewal request must be submitted before the items due date. ILL items cannot be renewed through your Library account. To renew ILL items please submit a renewal request to ILL@stvincent@edu before the due date. The renewal request will be submitted to the lending library and they will either approve or deny the request. Please keep the item(s) while the renewal request is pending, if the renewal request is approved you will get an email with the new due date. If the request is denied please return the item by the original due date.

OA/OER FAQ's

Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching and research materials that are in the public domain. OER includes resources in any format that may be reused by others at no cost.
No, when a resource is shared under OA the authors keep their copyright but a Creative Commons license is added. It may be free to access but there are still costs associated with publication. OER resources are in the public domain or have been released under an open license.
Yes, you must still credit the creator of the content.
