Writing: Six Principles of Good Writing

Introduction

Every Writing Designated (WD) Course at Saint Vincent College uses The Six Principles of Good Writing.

Developed by SVC Faculty, the Six Principles are used in its own discipline-specific and assignment-specific way.

The Six Principles of Good Writing include:

  1. Purpose
  2. Organization
  3. Coherence
  4. Support
  5. Clarity
  6. Insight

Click each principle to learn more about it, as well as questions you will want to think about to ensure you are utilizing each principle.

Every WD Course also prioritizes The Three Stages of Good Writing practice, which includes planning, drafting, and revising.
