What is Copyright?

What can be copyrighted?

Copyright law protects original works of authorship including: 

  • Literary works such as books, articles, and computer software.
  • Dramatic works such as plays and screenplays.
  • Musical works such as songs and compositions.
  • Artistic works such as paintings, sculptures, photographs, and architecture.
  • Audiovisual works such as movies and TV shows.
  • Sound recordings and musical compositions.

It is important to note that copyright does not protect ideas, facts, systems or methods of operation.
